Spaghetti Dinner & Stained Glass Window Project
The Friends of Lake View, an organization composed of Lake View alumni, friends and community representatives, work throughout the year to support the principal, students and staff of Lake View High School. Virtually everyone in the school has received assistance at some time from this group such as a trophy case for the Swim Team, street banners for Lake View’s 130th birthday, banquets for many of the athletic teams, financial assistance for almost every club and/or department and scholarships for graduates every year. For the past several years they have also financially supported the Veterans Day Program/Breakfast and are currently preparing for their 21st Annual Spaghetti Dinner to be held on May 6th from 4-7 pm in the school cafeteria. All proceeds from this dinner will directly support the students or Lake View High School. Last year the Friends raised over $16,000 and this year’s goal is $20,000.
For over twenty years the members of the Friends have been the driving force behind many major improvements to the school including the outdoor sign, new roof, asbestos removal, new windows, painting, tuckpointing, etc. They have now undertaken the task of restoring the beautiful stained glass window that is in the arch over the Irving Park entrance. This beautiful window is behind the auditorium and is missing several pieces. The entire window must be taken out in order to replace the pieces. This will cost a lot of money and the Friends are asking everyone to help.
The original window was paid with donations from students, staff and alumni in memory of Lake View’s 5th principal, Mr. B. Frank Brown whose favorite saying was, let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man.
If you would like more informa- tion on the Spaghetti Dinner and/or the Stained Glass Window
Project OR if you would just like to be added to the email/mailing list for updates on the Friends’ activities, please contact the Friends through Karen Sicililano at 773-534-5449 or email her at ksiciliano@cps.edu.

The window was created by Joseph J. Vogel who was the president of the Temple Art Glass Co. It was installed by Paul Gleissner who graduated in 1916. Many years later Joseph’s granddaughter and Paul’s niece, Lorraine Gleissner Meding graduated from Lake View with the class of 1951.
Thank you Dr. Erlich for remembering "Old Lake View."
